<p>Four double bills at the Vortex Jazz Club featuring some of the UK’s finest contemporary jazz groups with support from a younger generation of rising stars.<br />

<p><strong>ARQ</strong> Bassist and composer Alison Rayner steps to the fore with a new jazz, latin and funk-inspired quintet. More usually seen driving the rhythm sections of Deirdre Cartwright Group, the Vortex Foundation Big Band and Blow the Fuse club nights, her compositions are influenced by artists as diverse as Charlie Haden, Jaco Pastorius, Bill Evans, Pat Metheny, Steely Dan, Afro Cuban dance music and European folk&#8230;</p>

<p><strong>Metamorphi</strong>c are a contemporary song-based jazz/folk sextet led by pianist Laura Cole. Their debut album, &#8216;The Rock Between&#8217;, was released to critical acclaim on the F-ire label in April 2011.</p>
<p>Their music has been called ‘<em>refreshingly feminine</em>’ (Jazzwise), ‘<em>brave, honest yet beguiling</em>’ (Jazz UK), and as having ‘<em>rare strength and beauty</em>’ (All About Jazz).</p>
<p>Chris Williams, alto sax (Led Bib), John Martin, tenor/soprano sax (The John Martin Quartet), Kerry Andrew, vocals/loops (Juice Vocal Trio), Tom Greenhalgh, drums (World Sanguine Report), Paul Sandy, double bass (The Dead Victorians) and Laura Cole, piano/rhodes/composer/arranger (Juxtavoices).</p>
